If you love exploring cities through stories as much as we do, we’ve got something fun to share! Daniel and I have officially launched our first VoiceMap Audio Walking Tour — right here in Raleigh, he city where we met. You can check it out here: Historic Oakwood: A Tour of Raleigh’s Victorian Architecture.
Daniel and I have been using VoiceMap on our travels for years — from winding cobblestone streets in far-off cities to peaceful little towns — and it’s become one of our favorite ways to explore and listen rather than just look. There’s something so magical about walking through a city while hearing the history, hidden stories, and local charm come alive in your ear. So when we realized we could make our own tour, we were psyched!
This tour takes you deep into the heart of Historic Oakwood — one of Raleigh’s largest intact 19th-century residential areas, filled with rich architecture from the Victorian era and beyond. You’ll wander past homes built in styles like Italianate, Second Empire, Queen Anne and charming Craftsman bungalows.
And since it’s spooky season, what better backdrop than this neighborhood with its grand turrets, sweeping porches, shadowy tree-lined streets and historic homes that seem to whisper tales of the past? We’ll even point you toward one of the most celebrated Halloween houses in the area — the one decked out in full Halloween splendor in Oakwood for all to admire.
We had such a great time bringing this to life and can’t wait to create more VoiceMap tours in Raleigh — and beyond! Grab your headphones and download the tour for just $10 and explore all that Oakwood has to offer! Happy haunting… and happy listening!
